Since being seated on the Anchorage School Board following the April 2021 special election, I've toured dozens of schools to get a feel for the current state of education, championed student learning in Board meetings, supported healthy frameworks for returning to school, stayed in touch with community councils, and worked with fellow Board members to both hone long-term goals for improved student outcomes and hire a new Superintendent to lead that charge.

I’m honored to have been re-elected to Seat B’s full three year term, which will span May 2022-2025. As our community strives to improve student learning and grapples with major organizational, pedagogical, and financial decisions, my goal is to keep our children’s needs at the center of all discussions.

I believe that the manner in which Anchorage School Board members address core issues like funding, class sizes, reading proficiency, equitable access to advanced coursework, supports for students with special needs, career preparation, and teacher retention and recruitment, how they ask questions about key markers like attendance, graduation rates, and staffing, and how they value less-easily measured but highly employable skills like empathy, kindness, and resilience will have direct bearing on our long-term student outcomes.

It has been a privilege to serve our community in this capacity over the past year. As I head into the three year term, I want to underscore my gratitude for the generous support I’ve received from volunteers, donors, and voters throughout my back-to-back campaigns.
